Description

Kniphofia ensifolia subsp. ensifolia is a robust, very hardy, evergreen, perennial with basal, strap-like leaves that have a finely toothed margin. The tubular flowers are red and then open to a greenish-white. Insects, sunbirds and other birds are attracted to the garden by the nectar of these flowers.

It does well in moist and marshy areas but must be planted in full sun. Ideal for a well-watered flowering meadow or grassland garden, and grows well in a container, provided it receives plenty of water. It is one of only three species of Kniphofia that grows in Gauteng.

Plant in full sun, water well or grow in marshy conditions, and will benefit from well composted soil.
