Description

Elaeodendron transvaalense is a hardy, semi deciduous small to medium sized tree with an attractive rounded crown and leathery green to grey-green leaves.

The small clusters of cream to green flowers are borne from December to April. These are followed by edible yellow fruits that are much sought after by birds.

Although this tree is a little slow growing it is worthwhile as it develops into a really beautiful specimen tree.

Used extensively in traditional medicine.

Wildlife

Wildlife: The flowers attract and feed honey bees. The fruit attracts birds to the garden.

Distribution

Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West Province, KwaZulu Natal.

Natural Habitat Along rivers and streams, Associated with Termite Mounds, Bushveld, Woodland
